THE BRICKFIELD SCHOOLS
The O My Bag team is back in Kolkata, our home away from home! We’re here to visit our producers, to explore the buzzing city and to visit local projects, like the Brickfield Schools.
We have talked about the Brickfield Schools, in our previous blog. Well, today the time has finally come to visit these open air schools.
The Brickfield Schools
The schools are no doubt very unique as they are open air schools and set up under the shade of trees or temporary shades. Each school has a trunk in which all the materials for setting up the school are kept. Every morning the teachers of the school carry the trunk to the school area. They take out the teaching learning materials and hang them on a string to create the temporary open air class. With these very limited resources these schools provide education for the brickfield children 5 days a week, 3 hours a day. These schools are so important, because without them the migrant children would not receive any education at all. Their chances in life improve by education, aiming to break the cycle these families are in. After discussion with the passionate staff and teachers we learned about a specific need where we as O My Bag can support and it involves our loyal O My Bag customers. Want to learn more? Stay tuned!
Love, The O My Bag Team
