We have started out working with STC in 2015. It is a smoothly run family business, and has 480 employees, 75 of which are women. Ipshita, daughter of one of the founders, stepped into her father’s business about 7 years ago and is now managing the complete bag department. Her brother Utsav joined about two years ago and is the one responsible for wallets and small accessories. STC has designed and build the building they currently work in about 20 years ago. It was designed in such a way that different departments can work peacefully in own separate areas and that people can easily move around between the departments they are involved with directly. Also, there is a health and safety training organized every 2 months.
O My Bag was the first brand for who STC produced an eco-leather line. About 15% of all products of STC are eco-leather products. They are very proud of the cooperation and are advocating the possibilities of eco-leather not only to other buyers but with their own friends and family as well! They slowly but surely see the interest growing and very much hope to be doing more eco-leather business in the future.
The 480 employees working at STC all get access to healthcare, save up for their retirement and get other social benefits. Moreover, overtime is voluntary. This means the workers are not obliged to work overtime and can opt against it. Currently, 15 percent of the people at STC are women. They would love to move towards more women on the working floor though.
Sanjay: “We would love to have as many women as possible at the factory. All work that can be done by women, should be done by women.” Listen listen!
