SHEONG SHI TANNERY
This tannery has been with us from the start in 2010. Since then the Sheong Shi Tannery in Kolkata helped us improve, expand and promote the use of eco-leathers. Patrick and Veronica, the owners of the Sheong Shi Tannery are very passionate about the eco-leather project. Our most recent development is the softer leather we use for our Midnight Collection.
At the Sheong Shi Tannery they are reminded constantly that all of them together (the management, the workers and the maintenance people) are like spokes in a wheel. They are like an extended family! They all need each other and must work together for the benefit of all. Every single person is important. The Sheong Shi Tannery provides their workers with health insurance, pension funds, support in their rent and education.
In the factory, protective equipment (such as boots/gloves) is provided by Patrick and Veronica. There are emergency exits in the factory and the placing of the machines is organized so that there is no need to walk around through the factory in case of an emergency. Light and ventilation is also taken care of.
In addition, Patrick has also taken responsibility of some of some of the workers’ children’s education. Just like us, Patrick believes that education is the best tool to eradicate poverty. The goal of the Sheong Shi Tannery is to provide education to at least one child of each worker (preferably daughters because they have less chances for education and work).
THE GENUINE ITALIAN VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER CONSORTIUM
A partner of the O My Bag family since 2016 is The Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium. This tannery provides us with the most beautiful leather used for our classic collection and was founded in 1994 by a small group of Tuscan tanners.
Today there are more than 20 associated tanneries, all of them operating in Tuscany, in the area between Pisa and Florence, and sharing the same passion for vegetable-tanned leather and the same standards of production. In the Tuscan Leather District vegetable-tanned leather is still produced following the traditional methods: turning raw hides into durable leather takes time and patience, and the skillful combination of technology and experience.
Conceria Nuova Grenoble
One of the associated tanneries is Conceria Nuova Grenoble. This tannery, with its state-of-the-art articles, was born in 1977 and it is synonymous for respect for tradition and safeguard of the environment. Thanks to its vegetable-tanning – a natural process – and to its natural products, Nuova Grenoble has now characterized its production on the international market. Its products are not harmful for man and are also likable to touch and to see. Thanks to the qualities of the natural oils used in the tanning, the leathers always maintain particular characteristics of beauty, brilliance, softness, and length.
